NDA members strive to empower the economically disadvantaged through education and personal hands-on support. They offer small group and one-on-one instruction to children and adults (literacy, GED, and ESL), organize after-school enrichment activities, model and teach conflict resolution, and involve community professionals in the learning process.
Members commit to at least 1700 hours of service over 11 months (August to June).
The NDA member for this position would serve with Immigration Outreach Service Center.
Immigration Outreach Service Center (IOSC) is an independent non-profit organization that serves the needs of immigrants in Baltimore & surrounding areas. The mission of the IOSC is to create a pathway for success by listening to and partnering with immigrants within a safe environment, regardless of immigration status, race, ethnicity, sexual identity, or religious affiliation, and to walk together on our common journey to a more just and secure future.
I. General Description:
Working as part of the IOSC team, the tutor will be responsible for helping to create an enriching environment for immigrant learners. Areas of study include ESOL, financial & computer literacy, and after-school tutoring.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement educational programs for adult language education, financial literacy, and computer literacy education.
- Create lesson plans and instructional materials for classroom and tutoring sessions
- Manage classroom activities and ensure a safe and productive learning environment
- Collaborate with other educators and community partners to develop and improve programs
Skills:
- Strong instructional design skills with experience in developing curricula for diverse learners
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators, administrators, and community partners
- Classroom management skills with the ability to create a safe and productive learning environment
- Bilingual proficiency is preferred but not required
