Description

Connecticut NDA members will serve in a variety of positions in inner city schools. Positions are designed to provide academic assistance for grades PreK-8. NDA members facilitate after school programs, receive educational training, support teachers in the classroom, assist in support and development of students, and facilitate school operations directly serving students. Each Service Site varies in its service description. Sites are located across Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport. A Bachelor's degree is required to serve at all sites in Connecticut.

Covenant Preparatory School:
Covenant Prep. is a tuition free, all boys middle school focused on ‘Inspiring community through excellence in character, academics, and service. They strive to graduate young men who are academically and socially prepared for high school, inspired to lead their lives in the pursuit of excellence, model leadership and integrity, and are committed to their communities.
-Housing provided (limited spots)

Grace Academy:
Grace Academy is a comprehensive educational program for girls’ grades 5-8. They are providing a rare opportunity for students to experience a tuition-free, college preparatory education in an atmosphere of respect and responsibility. They offer a structured, challenging and supportive educational program for students of all faiths in Hartford. They work to inspire intellectual, spiritual, moral, social, creative and athletic growth of each young girl and to nurture in a small school setting the full potential of her whole character.

Trinity Academy:
Trinity Academy is an independent privately funded tuition-free elementary school, grades one through four, serving students and their families in the Hartford area. Their mission is to educate students in a nurturing and inclusive environment with a focus on intensive academics, the arts, literacy and critical thinking, and to help students to develop the strong core skills needed to grow socially, emotionally, and culturally.
-Local housing available

St. Martin de Porres Academy:
Saint Martin de Porres Academy is an independent faith-based school located in New Haven, Connecticut. They serve children of all faiths, races, and cultures through a 10-hour school day and an 11-month school year. Peace and non-violence education are an integral part of the curriculum. Every student plays an instrument and participates in afterschool programming.
- Small housing stipend provided

Covenant School of Bridgeport:
Covenant School of Bridgeport (CSB) provides young men, grades 5-8, who reside in underserved communities in Bridgeport, the foundation required to successfully pursue higher education, to develop the strength of their character, and to inspire them to live with integrity as leaders committed to their communities.
-Housing provided (limited spots)

Catholic Academy of Bridgeport:
Catholic Academy of Bridgeport (CAB) serves 900 students from diverse backgrounds across 4 different campuses. CAB provides students with a superior education in a faith-filled learning environment that nurtures the whole child—mind, body and spirit. AmeriCorps members will directly serve students in grades PreK-1 in small groups and one on one, in academic and other school programmatic settings, working in collaboration with the classroom teacher to help ensure engagement throughout the school day.

NDMVA is looking for hardworking, non-judgmental, and flexible individuals who are comfortable serving in grades PreK-8. Service Members must be open to differences, and celebrate and encourage their students. In addition to instructing classes, volunteers also tutor, serve as advisors, monitor lunch and recess, accompany students on some weekend field trips, conduct co-curricular activities after school, and serve in summer enrichment programs. Applicants should be committed to a challenging and rewarding service position.
