Description

NDA members strive to empower the economically disadvantaged through education and personal hands-on support. They offer small group and one-on-one instruction to children and adults (literacy, GED, and ESL), organize after-school enrichment activities, model and teach conflict resolution, and involve community professionals in the learning process. The NDA member for this position would serve with Baltimore City Community College/ Refugee Youth Project.

The Refugee Youth Project (RYP) helps school-aged youth develop the knowledge and skills required for academic success and positive integration. Programs include after-school, summer school, individual mentoring, college access mentoring, and community arts. After-school programs focus on homework help, social skills, and building and improving English language skills. Find more information at https://www.bccc.edu/Page/122.

Position Details

Term: August 2024 - July 2025. Members commit to at least 1700 hours of service over their term.

Schedule: 40 Hours per week, flexible - The schedule is Monday-Friday and occasional weekends.

Location: Baltimore City Community College - Harbor Campus (710 E. Lombard St, Baltimore, MD 21202) and other sites

Responsibilities: Refugee Youth Project (RYP) will provide high-quality college and career readiness programming to RYP after school program students.
This includes:

- Delivery of college and career readiness after school programming (such as student workshops, homework help and tutoring, and college field trips) coordinated by College staff in the English Language Services (ESL) Department.
- Development of workshop materials, lessons, and enrichment activities for weekly after-school workshops for high school students.
- Contribute to the development and posting material for RYP social media management, fundraising events, and outreach.
- Keep records and engage in data collection/tracking (e.g. Attendance and Participation, college acceptance rates, amount earned in scholarships)

Additional Requirements:
Members attend regular bi-weekly meetings as an NDA team, which focus on reflection, training, service projects, and professional development. For this position a car is recommended.
