Description

Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes is a community-based free food pantry dedicated to providing nutritious food to the Watsonville and surrounding communities. Our Notre Dame AmeriCorps member supports our mission by helping directly distribute food to the pantry and lunch guests and recruit and manage wonderful community volunteers, Monday through Friday. It is a rewarding, collaborative, guest-centric environment.

Ready to become an essential service member to your community? We are seeking, part-time AmeriCorps members to serve in Watsonville August, 2024 - June 2025.

Notre Dame Mission Volunteers - AmeriCorps (ndmva.org) members serve in Watsonville and around the country, supporting the community by providing educational assistance in the school district as well as volunteer recruitment and support at local nonprofits. We are looking forward to onboarding our 2024-2025 team!

Members serve part-time, August, 2024 - June 2025. and receive a range of benefits, including:

Living Stipend, totaling up to $14,500 pre-tax, distributed biweekly
Health Insurance, including mental healthcare coverage
Student loan forbearance
Child Care assistance if applicable
Subsidized rentals available in Watsonville ($400/mo)
Ongoing training and professional development support, and national MidYear conference in Baltimore, MD.
Combined Segal Education Award of $3,697.5, pre-tax to be used for higher education expenses.
Responsibilities of this Service Position include:

Seek partnerships and engage with grocery stores and restaurants
Pick up food from participating stores
Sort incoming rescued food
Solicit and record in kind donations
Meal prep, to include cutting vegetables and assembling lunches
Monitor and scrape food waste from lunch plates
Distribute/serve lunches to clients
Aggregate and post lunch participation numbers monthly
Prepare lunch seating area
Pack and distribute pantry bags
Sort produce
Help unload food from Second Harvest Food Bank
Aggregate and post pantry participation numbers monthly
Document grocery rescue and community outreach Programs
Participate in on-going collaboration with community resources, referral sources, and agencies
Create and post flyers to bulletin board in both Spanish and English
Contribute to the community and volunteer newsletters

Must by proficient in conversational English/Spanish
Computer skills (Excel, basic social media tools)
Must be able to work in a loud, fast-paced environment
Driver's License
Adaptability
AmeriCorps members must be over 18, with high school diploma/GED, and a US Citizen or legal permanent resident
All AmeriCorps members complete a FBI and Truescreen background checks during pre-enrollment
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $1,318.00 per month

Expected hours: 20 per week
