Description

Purpose: The AmeriCorps member will serve the local middle school students who participate in the Teen Internship Program (TIP) and help them to develop confidence, job skills, and lasting community connections. The member will be a mentor to the students and a huge help in furthering the development of the TIP program and its impact in the local community. They will also facilitate community events such as taking the goats to a community park, school, community center, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:
50% Teen Internship:
- Assist in supporting local students in caring for the goats and gardens from 8am - 12pm on Saturdays during the school year and 3 days a week in the summer
- Create fun and engaging team building opportunities and workshops for the teens
- Assist in reaching out to teen interns and their support team (guardians and school teachers) to help provide holistic support
- Assist PGP team in planning events and activities for the teen interns and their families
- Assist with community outreach to help spread the word about the Teen Internship Program

25% Farm Work:
- Assist with goat care and the gardens from 8 am -12 pm a few days a week
- Assist with the goat’s bedtime a few days a week, usually later in the evening for one hour
- Assist with fencing and setting up for events at the farm

25% Other events/programs:
- Assisting with goat activities at the PGP farm, local schools, libraries and parks
- Participating in team and staff meetings

$1700 - $1700 monthly

Education Requirements

GED

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

- Meets all NDMVA program requirements
- Able to walk a mile
- Able to lift a 5 gallon bucket of water
- Able to serve outdoors in inclement weather. There are spare jackets, beanies and gloves on site.
- Passionate about working with teenagers and making community connections
- Comfortable using their personal cell phone and creating a Google number for community outreach

Things to keep in mind:
- There is a Port-o-Potty to be used for the restroom. It is kept clean.
- Depending on the weather, community goat events may be rescheduled. Flexibility is very important.
