Full time members will work within their communities to address community needs that will range from volunteer recruitment, tutoring and other areas specified by the director and host site.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools AVID Program
is seeking a dedicated person to serve as a Full Time North Carolina LiteracyCorps Member.
In this service with the AVID Program, you would be expected to perform the following
responsibilities:
1. Manage AVID volunteer tutor programs including on-going recruitment, placement, training,
monitoring and communication with AVID teachers regarding volunteer tutor attendance and
performance.
2. Assist Coordinator of AVID and Gifted Programs in recruitment, selection and placement of fulltime
AVID Tutorial Leaders.
3. Assist AVID teachers in planning motivational day activities including finding guest speakers and
arranging AVID field trips.
4. Assist middle school AVID teachers in Spring recruitment of rising sixth grade students.
5. Guides implementation of CHCCS AVID graduate locator and communication project.
6. Guides production of quarterly AVID electronic newsletter.
7. Assist AVID teachers in the development and implementation of parent awareness workshops
related to college preparedness and readiness for AVID families.
8. Fills in as tutorial leader in AVID elective classrooms as needed.
Minimum North Carolina LiteracyCorps AmeriCorps requirements:
• High school diploma or GED
• At least 17 years-old
• U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Legal Permanent Resident
• Proof of no previous conviction or substantiation of child abuse, violent or sexual crimes
• Strong commitment to community service
• Reliable transportation
• 12 month commitment to this position and completion of 1,700 hours of service between the start date of August 20th, 2018 through July 31, 2018.
• Ability to work well with a diverse population of people
• Previous education and/or experience working with middle or high school children preferred
Additional experience and educational requirements:
• College experience preferred
• Tutoring experience preferred
• Comfort with a variety of computer technologies

Additional Benefits
Full-time LiteracyCorps members will receive a living allowance of up to $13,732 for 1,700 hours of service and, upon satisfactory completion of service, an educational award of $ 5920.
