Description

Second Harvest Food Bank provides 11 million pounds of food assistance annually, to over 75,000 people per month through its network of 150 member agencies and programs. By increasing access to healthy food, Second Harvest is making a profound impact towards growing a healthier community.

The NDMV-AmeriCorps member is an integral part of the Programs department; they provide a combination of support to program services and community partner collaboration for projects. They are responsible in supporting SHFB staff for day-to-day coordination of the program; participant and volunteer advocacy, outreach, and recruitment; supporting periodic and special reports/presentations; and supporting with training of program volunteers.

Physical Requirements
Able to safely lift or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds
Able to hear normal conversations and speak clearly in person and on the phone
Able to see and read documents
Able to walk up and down stairs
Requires some outdoor work, frequent standing and sitting throughout the day

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Bilingual English/Spanish required. Bicultural strongly preferred
Must be able to work evenings and some weekends in order to best reach the community

Position Summary (Full description available)
・Conduct engaging nutrition education at designated sites and support SHFB staff with
operations and logistics.
・Use popular education framework and online communication methods for education.
・Track involvement via excel or Google Docs and attend weekly workshops.
・ Support cooking club with SHFB staff and students.
・Conduct outreach, recruit volunteers, and participate in special events.
・Admin duties include attendance tracking, reports, and purchasing items.
・ All members provide high-level customer service and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
・Comfortable communicating respectfully with people from different racial, ethnic and cultural groups, and from diverse backgrounds and lifestyles; sensitivity and understanding of diverse, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of residents in the community at-large
・Experience with community engagement and knowledge of community resources (governmental, community, and social service organizations and their functions)
・High degree of flexibility, ability to multitask, and meet strict deadlines
・Strong personal computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing to generate files and manipulate data, utilizing spreadsheet and word processing tools
・Correct English and Spanish usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
・Basic filing and record keeping methods and procedures
・Maintain confidentiality of information
・Promote SHFB and/or program to prospective participants and or the community
・Experience working with low socio-economic residents, government, nonprofit or faith-based organization
・Experience with community outreach and engagement
