Goal of this Position: To create avenues and opportunities for health and food-related programming within the Promise Zone, a geographic area encompassing four elementary schools on the south side of Springfield, Ohio.
Successful individuals in this role are passionate about health and food; have some experience in gardening or agriculture; are strong communicators who can provide motivation for engagement in health related activities; are able to multi-task and work on multiple projects at the same time; and can navigate diverse cultures, norms, and barriers.
Projects include: creating opportunities for health & food-related programming. Supporting the development of parent and child education related to healthy food choices and to growing nutrient rich foods: creating a calendar of activities in association with partner organizations; developing and/or synthesizing curriculum for health in area neighborhoods; coordinating instruction & delivery of curriculum & activities, and working to build a network of backyard gardeners and community gardens. Assist Neighborhood Associations & stakeholders to publicize health events: increase awareness & attendance through promotion, relationship-building, networking, and designing engaging garden activities.
