Focus Areas

  • Community & Nonprofit Development
  • Education & Youth

We will all come together as partners and citizens in the unwavering commitment to ensure that ALL OUR children succeed and attain their highest potential.

  • About Us
The premise of Springfield Promise Neighborhood’s work is that the long-term goal of poverty alleviation depends upon the academic and social success of children such as the ones who attend Lincoln. This, in turn, requires that children benefit in their development, particularly in their earliest years, from thriving schools and thriving neighborhoods.
SPN builds upon and enhances this theory of change — that a Thriving Neighborhood and a Thriving School drive Youth Success — and we believe this is the key to breaking the claim of generational poverty on the lives of children and the vitality of their families and neighborhoods. SPN is dedicated to the success of the children, a success measured by their ability to succeed in school and eventually graduate from high school with the skills necessary to get a good paying job or pursue higher education opportunities.
The SPN project is advanced through work in four interrelated, strategic areas: A) School Readiness, B) Community and Family Engagement, C) Youth Development, and D) Responsive Schools. SPN is resident-led and facilitated by a full-time Project Director, a Neighborhood Coordinator, an Executive Administrator, and AmeriCorps VISTA members. Each strategic area has its own specific goal and activities. Each strategic area is advised and directed by an advisory team that includes residents and area providers.
  • Our Impact
SPN develops programming and activities for youth academic and social success, parent and family engagement, and wider resident and neighborhood engagement. SPN innovates new strategies for neighborhood revitalization using the Asset-Based Community Development model. SPN convenes partners and organizations to encourage shared goals, objectives, and resources. SPN advocates for the well-being of all Springfield residents, particularly low-income and under-resourced youth.

Springfield Promise Neighborhood Programs

Springfield Promise Neighborhood

The Springfield Promise Neighborhood is a local collaborative effort to ensure child success. We convene to provide educational experiences, innovate, develop & share best practices, and advocate for education, resident-led change, & community. The long-term goal of poverty alleviation depends upon the academic and social success of children such as those who attend Lincoln, Kenwood, Perrin Woods, and Fulton Elementary schools and the neighboring communities who reside in the south side of Springfield, Ohio. These students reside in highly mobile and under-resourced communities lacking playgrounds, day care facilities, and the kind of enrichment and civic associations that mark a vibrant place to live and raise a family. Academic and social growth requires that children benefit in their development, particularly in their earliest years, from the interactive support of thriving schools and thriving communities. SPN’s mission is as simple as it is difficult -- that young people served by Promise will achieve high school graduation and the attainment of skills necessary to get a good paying job or pursue higher education opportunities. SPN seeks motivated, passionate, committed individuals who can help us advocate for community-led change, support resident leaders, build relationships with area providers and partner organizations, and innovate new ways of community development, leadership, investment, and engagement.
