The AmeriCorps Program is currently seeking a motivated individual to serve full-time (~33 hours per week) for one full year as a “Health Advocate” at the Community Council of Idaho Migrant & Seasonal Head Start Program in Twin Falls.
Responsibilities of Health Advocate would include such things as:
• Implementing the UCLA Health Literacy Program for enrolled MSHS/HIP parents
• Ensuring quality services for MSHS enrolled children and families
• Developing health resource packets
• Linking families to needed community resources such as medical & dental homes
• Promotion of health literacy at program based and community events
• Tracking and monitoring of health literacy program outcomes
• Implementing “health and safety practices”
This is a fabulous opportunity to get additional experience in public health and/or to complete required Internship hours through school (if approved by department). The Site will work around a school schedule (if pertinent), & will adequately train the individual to complete the required service.

Education Requirements
GED
Desired Certifications or Qualifications
To be eligible:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Have a Driver’s License & Reliable Transportation for minimal travel.
• Pass a Background Check.
• Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish is preferred
• Must be computer literate in Word, Excel, Power Point, etc
• Be able to complete 1700 total hours over one full year. Start date September 1, 2016
• Previous experience or knowledge in public health setting and/or outreach
• Previous experience or knowledge in interviewing and home visiting
• Have an interest in assisting the underserved and an interest in health care.
