Since 2009, Idaho Health Care for Children and Families (IHCF) members work out of Head Start and Early Head Start programs or any non-profit organization with a health related mission to provide outreach to children and families, assist with advocacy needs, provide health education, and serve as a link between the community and the Head Start/Early Head Start or non-profit program. Major goals of the IHCF AmeriCorps program include direct family services such as, developing health resource packets, facilitating healthy classroom curriculums, assisting families to find medical and dental services, promoting health at various children’s events, fostering community education, organizing health fairs, workshops, trainings, and other community outreach.

Since 2000, Idaho Community HealthCorps (ICHC) members work out of community health centers and non-profit community organizations to provide outreach to families and individuals, assist with advocacy needs, provide health education, and serve as a link between the community and the health center. “Community HealthCorps provides a two-fold opportunity for our AmeriCorps members to create healthy futures for the patients and communities they serve, while developing into the health and public service leaders of tomorrow,” explains National Director Gerrard Jolly.

  • About Us
The AmeriCorps programs are administered at the Idaho State University Institute of Rural Health (ISU-IRH), a department within the Division of Health Sciences. As we are based within the ISU Division of Health Sciences, which is the state’s lead institution for the education of health professionals, we tend to attract a diverse population of students who are thinking about or currently pursuing a health related career and we welcome diverse populations of non-traditional students as well as students and non-students to participate.
  • Our Impact
All member activities will focus on increasing knowledge through patient education and ways to enhance economic opportunity by helping communities gain financial literacy related to the access and/or utilization of the health care system, head start and early head start system and health-related systems throughout Idaho.
