The AmeriCorps Program is currently seeking 1 motivated individual to serve full-time (~33 hours per week) for one full year as a “Health Advocate” at the Garfield Community Center in Boise, ID.
Responsibilities of Health Advocate would include such things as: promoting physical activity and nutrition in an afterschool setting for elementary-aged students, forming positive relationships with afterschool participants and staff, outreach to community partners, coordinating classes/speakers that promote healthy living, developing relationships with the school district and City of Boise staff, planning classroom health education sessions for afterschool participants, parent night health education sessions, promotion of health at various children events, developing and collecting student and parent surveys.
This is a fabulous opportunity to get additional experience in a health related career and/or to complete required Internship hours through school (if approved by department). The Site will work around a school schedule (if pertinent), & will adequately train the individual to complete the required service.

Education Requirements
High School Graduate
Desired Certifications or Qualifications
To be eligible:
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Be able to complete 1700 total hours over one full year. Start date September 1, 2016.
• Previous experience or knowledge in a health setting.
• Pass a Background Check.
• Have an interest in assisting the underserved and an interest in health care.
• Have a Drivers License & Reliable Transportation for minimal travel.
