Description

This position based in Portland, ME will increase the number of YouthBuild Bayside students who earn a high school diploma or equivalency, enter college, and/or gain employment. The VISTA member’s service activities will include: enhancing and refining a career readiness curriculum, developing and implementing a recruitment strategy, and making the alumni program sustainable.

YouthBuild is a comprehensive youth development program with the following core components:

Education
Vocational
Jobs for Maine Graduates
Leadership
Community Service
On-site counseling (group and individual)

Our focus is to engage out-of-school, low-income youth ages 16.5-24 and help them obtain valued skills and certifications including PACT, NCCER, OSHA-10 and GED. Through alternative education and employment pathways, we will enable participants to advance toward post-secondary education or career-oriented employment while taking responsibility for the community at large.

Upon successful completion of the program YouthBuild transition services assist students in job and/or college placement. Our wonderful and dedicated staff will continue to provide follow-up services for at least a year after leaving the program.
