Description

Regina Residence provides the opportunity to serve the needs of Sisters who have served in various ministries for many years. The nursing home volunteer is expected to feel comfortable around older people, be willing to listen to them, care for them and generally provide a nurturing relationship.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Regina Residence, plan and organize individual and group activities for residents with cognitive impairment/symptoms of dementia related disease. Work directly with residents either in group activities or 1:1 visits supported by the Regina Residence staff.

Assist in design, planning and conduct of activity programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills. Programming is designed based on the abilities and interests of the residents and within the framework of the person-centered care philosophy. Develop a monthly activity and facilitate individual activities as needed, particularly for residents who self-isolate or are bed bound.

Assists residents requiring help writing notes and letters, organizing personal effects and other needs. Assists in maintaining environment including caring for pets, watering plants and setting up seasonal and celebratory decorations.

Communicates any resident "changes in condition" to the Team Leader (Nurse) on duty .
