Description

Come serve with Navarro College’s Adult Education and Literacy Program, located in Corsicana, TX. Navarro College’s Adult education and literacy programs are funded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and provide English language, math, reading, and writing instruction to help students acquire the skills needed to succeed in the workforce, earn a high school equivalency, or enter college or career training. The Adult Education Program strives to inspire and enable all adults, especially those from disadvantaged communities, to build a foundation for continued learning in order to realize their full potential as productive and responsible members of society.

Member Duties : Texas Adult Education and Literacy Capacity Building VISTA will build organizational capacity to fight poverty by increasing local capacity to serve eligible individuals in federal adult education and literacy (AEL) programs. AmeriCorps VISTA members will be responsible for building enrollment in AEL programs through increased capacity and strategic partnerships, developing marketing materials, participating in outreach and recruitment events to build program capacity as well as support student retention, retention research and retention strategies. This program serves individuals who lack sufficient mastery of basic educational skills to enable the individuals to function effectively in society; do not have a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have not achieved an equivalent level of education; or are unable to speak, read, or write the English language.
