Description
Come serve with Denton Independent School District’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program at their partnering site Lewisville ISD. Denton ISD’s AEL program is an instructional college and careers program for individuals who lack educational skills expected of high school graduates and whose inability to speak, read, and write the English language and compute and solve problems, constitutes a substantial impairment to their ability to become self-sufficient, obtain/retain employment, and/or function on the job.
Member Duties : Texas Adult Education and Literacy Capacity Building VISTA will build organizational capacity to fight poverty by increasing local capacity to serve eligible individuals in federal adult education and literacy (AEL) programs. AmeriCorps VISTA members will be responsible for building enrollment in AEL programs through increased capacity and strategic partnerships, developing marketing materials, participating in outreach and recruitment events to build program capacity and supporting student retention, retention research and retention strategies. This program serves individuals who lack sufficient mastery of basic educational skills to enable the individuals to function effectively in society; do not have a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have not achieved an equivalent level of education; or are unable to speak, read, or write the English language.
