Minneapolis Community and Technical College provides access to the transformative power of education in a diverse and dynamic downtown environment. The departments within the MCTC Student Support Center work in conjunction with one another to consistently provide holistic and inclusive support services to our students in a compassionate and respectful environment. The work and goals of this position include building capacity that will help MCTC students experiencing barriers. This work will be done through service provided by the college and external agencies. This allows for students to increase their knowledge about service and gain self-sufficiency. The work and goals will be accomplished by leveraging additional community partners, conducting research and seeking out additional funding streams related to services such as housing, food security, health, financial literacy, conflict resolution issues, re-entry (formerly in criminal justice system), domestic violence, sexual violence and related issues that often cause disparities. Additional goals include assisting in expansion of Student Parent Center services and programming specific to student parents. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. ***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

End of Service Benefit: $6095 Education Award (can be used within seven years for future tuition or to repay student loans) OR $1,800 cash stipend. Only awarded upon successful completion of service. Relocation Allowance: if moving more than 50 miles to a new location, $550 settling in allowance can be requested. Healthcare Support: $7,350 healthcare allowance to supplement the VISTA's qualifying comprehensive health insurance plan. Student Loan Forbearance: is available to those you elect the Education Award and can be applied to any qualifying federal student loans.
