Description
The Minneapolis Health Department’s (MHD) mission is to improve the quality of life for all in the City by protecting the environment, preventing disease and injury, promoting healthy behaviors, and creating a city that is a healthy place to live, work, and play. A core part of MHD’s work is youth violence prevention. That includes the Blueprint Approved Institute (BPAI). BPAI is a capacity building initiative aimed at strengthening community-based agencies’ ability to deliver violence prevention work and increasing their capacity to access resources. MHD philosophical approach to implementing this initiative is to cultivate shared learning and networking acknowledging the fact that many of the solutions to address equity issues exist already within the community. By supporting the existing work of community-based providers and providing a platform for training and convening through BPAI, MHD can better promote health, wellbeing, and equity for all in the City. The VISTA will develop an evaluation plan for BPAI, use the results to implement program improvements, support ongoing refinement, and position the initiative for additional funding. MHD is partnering with the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach Engagement Center. UROC will provide training to the VISTA around community-based research methodology and evaluation practices. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
