  • About Us
MCC YouthBuild/AmeriCorps is a training and education program for 18 to 24 year old Milwaukee residents who are disconnected from school and/or work. Members build new houses, which are then available for sale to families earning no more than 80% of County Median Income.
  • Our Impact
Corps members learn both career specific carpentry skills, and the soft skills needed to obtain and retain employment. It is our goal to have every young person leave YouthBuild on a career path in an in-demand field. While in the program, those members not holding a high school diploma can earn a GED. All members have the opportunity to increase literacy and numeracy to employment ready levels and earn industry recognized, stackable certifications. Upon successful completion of AmeriCorps service hours, members are awarded scholarship money for post-secondary education.
Personal responsibility and leadership, along with community involvement are also major components of the program. Members are encouraged to serve on the YB leadership council and take part in volunteer activities throughout the neighborhood and larger community.
In addition to approximately twenty 900 hour AmeriCorps positions, MCC enrolls three members who complete 1700 hours of service. These members further develop their leadership and professional skills while serving as classroom and construction site assistants, modelling good work habits, mentoring, and motivating the other young people toward success.
