One full-time member will assist the GED instructor with lesson planning and delivery, tutor members who need individual help in reading/language arts, science, social studies, and math. The full-time member will serve as a model, mentor, and motivator to our GED students and those graduates needing basic skill development to employment ready levels. The full-time member serves as a model, mentor, and motivator to the 20 half-time AmeriCorps/YouthBuild members who are working on academic and job skills.

Service Activities

tutoring, lesson planning, assisting GED instructor with lesson and activity preparation, developing community service projects, career and college preparation assistance, working as part of an instructional team.

Community Need Addressed

low rate of GED attainment, high unemployment among inner city youth, lack of affordable housing

Position Outcomes

As a result of this service, there will be an increase in the number of GED diplomas achieved, more students will attain job ready math and reading levels, and consequently, more young people will be able to reach their full potential.
