A challenge I’ve faced in my service year is…

Today I completed my first Linkedin Learning course on "Leading with Emotional Intelligence". I chose this topic because as my service year is moving past the half-way mark, I am attempting to reflect on my areas of growth as a leader.

I found the video, taught by Britt Andreatta, to be insightful and engaging. I admit I wasn't sure what to expect with these online courses, but they are so well done and comprehensive I am incredibly impressed. My total session was almost two hours and included five quizzes to assess my comprehension throughout the units. Here are some key take aways:

1) Emotional Quotient is a term used throughout which can be defined as the level of a person's emotional intelligence. This is a crucial thing to cultivate within ourselves as well as to promote and develop in others, specifically in the workplace.

2) There are three things to be aware of when improving your emotional intelligence: Be able to accurately identify your emotions and allow yourself to feel them, express gratitude, and allow yourself time to play.

3) Change is any structural shift that occurs and it is factual and unemotional. Transitions are the psychological process that involves the human thoughts and feelings that accompany change. Sustainability is taking care of yourself so that you can meet and respond to challenges over time. Resilience is your ability to recover quickly fro adversity.

I definitely intend to bring what I learned from this course to my work as a Team Leader for City Year and continue to grow my emotional intelligence and that of my teammates.
