Description
Jesuit Volunteer (JV) AmeriCorps members address pressing community needs in the Northwest by providing direct service to people on the margins of society and fragile ecosystems. Volunteers are placed in a variety of schools, social services, community health centers, legal clinics, and environmental and public agencies. They serve marginalized communities, including individuals experiencing homelessness, hunger, addictions, and/or abuse, as well as those with disabilities, at-risk youth, immigrants and refugees, Indigenous peoples, and Latinx communities.
Throughout your JV year, you would live in community with other JV AmeriCorps members and non-AmeriCorps JVs, learn to live simply and sustainably, and share in reflecting on your experience through the context of service and community life. You would experience the rugged beauty of the Northwest region, while living and serving in urban centers and rural communities. Our organization, including members, staff, and board, strive to live out the four values of community, simple living, social and ecological justice, and spirituality/reflection.
Placements are based on matching applicants’ skills and talents with the needs of the community. A wide array of placements exist, including tutoring Indigenous youth, leading programming that supports refugees and immigrants, helping homeless communities reach self-sufficiency, and more.
Apply today for an opportunity to transform communities, develop personal and professional skills, and become part of a life-long community with those who share your values.
