Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest responds to local community needs in the Northwest by placing volunteers to provide value-centered service grounded in the Jesuit Catholic tradition.

Honoring the Divine at work in all things, we envision the Northwest as a sustainable region where all live in dignity, are treated justly, and actively contribute to their own empowerment and positive change in their communities. JVC Northwest strives to live out the four values of community, simple living, social and ecological justice, and spirituality/reflection.

  • About Us
Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest engages individuals in a transforming experience of volunteer service in solidarity with and alongside people living on the margins of society and with fragile ecosystems in the Northwest.

If you serve in our Jesuit Volunteer program, you will serve alongside 120+ JV/AmeriCorps members* in a year or more of service focusing on the values of community, spirituality/reflection, simple living, and social and ecological justice.

During your year, you would live in community with 3-7 other JVs in both urban centers and rural communities throughout Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.

JV/AmeriCorps members are placed in over 100 different schools, social services, community health centers, and environmental and public agencies, and serve over 120,000 people, including individuals experiencing homelessness, adults with mental disabilities, women fleeing abuse, at-risk youth, people who are unemployed and disenfranchised, as well as fragile ecosystems around the Northwest.

Throughout your year, you would receive in-person, phone, and email support from JVC Northwest staff, attend three retreats to reflect on your experience, and gain both personal and professional skills to carry with you at the end of your year. There may also be additional opportunities for professional development related to the field you are serving in at your service site.

*The term JV/AmeriCorps member is used to refer to Jesuit Volunteers both with and without AmeriCorps status.
  • Our Impact
For over 60 years, JVC Northwest has served the most vulnerable members of our society in remote, rural, and urban settings across five states in the Northwest, as well as served as a model for the establishment of Peace Corps, VISTA, AmeriCorps, and many other faith-based volunteer organizations.

JVC Northwest has had a direct partnership with AmeriCorps since 2010. Each year, over 120 JV AmeriCorps members engage directly in building the capacity of local partner agencies so they are then able to serve a greater portion of their target clientele.

CAPACITY BUILDING: Our members' capacity building efforts strengthen the service of over 80 nonprofits each year. Capacity building resources developed by our members enhance and expand nonprofits’ abilities to meet the needs of communities in important and critical ways, including developing and enhancing programming at service sites as well as improving organizational and program evaluation, volunteer programming, communications and outreach, information technology, and partnerships and alliances.
