Description

Help to alleviate poverty for low-income individuals in North Carolina. The Service Year NC Program is an umbrella project that welcomes host sites tackling a wide array of poverty related issues in North Carolina. We place members in organizations and foundations to fight poverty across the state by increasing education and job-training opportunities, creating healthier communities, and ensuring students enter school ready to learn. What makes us unique? We believe service has the power to change individuals and communities. In addition to their daily AmeriCorps VISTA service, all Service Year NC VISTAs will work together on a statewide collaborative project to promote and advance volunteerism and service across the state.

The VISTA at IEI will work on a statewide level, supporting two programs of work that aim to improve outcomes in the Crib to Career pipeline. We are looking for a go-getter. Someone who is highly organized, and not afraid to jump into the work and learn while doing. Much of the position will require outreach to partners all across the state, so we are looking for someone who likes making connections and feels comfortable working with lots of different kinds of people. We want you to gain as much as you can throughout your VISTA year. As a VISTA at IEI, you will have the chance to learn from and network with experts all across the state. You will be working on the forefront of issues related to early childhood well-being, workforce development, and post-secondary attainment. Located in the Research Triangle, one of the top 10 places to live according to US News and World Report, IEI is close to everything that makes this area ‘cool.’ Check out the award-winning Hunt Library (yes, that’s our building), join in the ACC basketball rivalry, and partake in the music, art, and innovation that has made this area famous.
