Description
The City of New Orleans VISTA program is implemented by the Office of Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD). The City is seeking passionate individuals to build capacity to break the cycle of poverty and empower our community. New Orleans is a welcoming city with a unique culture, plentiful natural spaces, and a reputation for hospitable and friendly residents.
NORD is a sustainable and innovative organization which strives to advance the physical, mental, and social well-being of New Orleanians by providing safe and welcoming environments for recreational, athletic, and cultural experiences. The Goal of this project is to support NORD’s mission by working on fund development and grant writing, developing programs for youth, teens, adults and senior citizens, and implementing improved processes for the afterschool and summer camp programs. The VISTA project will allow NORD to increase its capacity to leverage financial resources, which will increase service delivery and enhance the quality of our programs.
The NORD VISTA will create the support needed in our ongoing efforts to create safe neighborhoods by offering quality programming for the residents in our community. NORD has recently expanded its program offerings to meet the needs of the rapidly changing landscape of virtual learning. The VISTA member will be instrumental in helping us create best practices and programmatic opportunities to support families both virtually and in person.
Throughout one year of service, the VISTA member will work with the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) to:
(1) Identify philanthropic and corporate support for the programs and initiatives of NORD through the identification, construction and reporting of grants to support the NORD Foundation.
(2) Work with the multi-programs division in improving existing programs and developing new virtual and in-person programs for youth, teens, adults and senior citizens.
(3) Ensure the successful implementation of NORDC’s afterschool program and summer camps by improving established processes, expanding and improving existing curriculums, and engaging in partnership outreach to bolster academic enrichment, arts, and cultural programs.
