It is the mission of Clinch-Powell to build strong, sustainable communities by investing in people, housing, ecotourism and conservation of natural resources. We accomplish this through partnerships, direct investments, financial education and counseling, and by providing housing solutions, primarily in Tennessee.

  • About Us
At Clinch-Powell, we believe in building strong communities, caring for people, and protecting natural resources. We approach all of our programs and endeavors with sustainability and conservation of resources in mind. Appalachia CARES is one of the largest state AmeriCorps service programs in Tennessee, and is hosted and managed by Clinch-Powell. It a service-learning program, with focus areas in Housing Services and Energy Efficiency/Conservation. Members are placed all over east and middle Tennessee to implement direct service at community based organizations, and offer service-learning opportunities to the surrounding community. Members also engage in capacity building for organizations as a secondary service in order to expand the reach and programs offered to the community.
  • Our Impact
Appalachia CARES / AmeriCorps members focus on housing services and conservation. In the 2014-2015 service year, our members were able to reduce the environmental impact of over 3,500 individuals through energy efficiency and conservation service-learning projects. Over 30 state parks benefited from Appalachia CARES member service. Fifteen members were placed with affordable housing agencies, engaging in various services, including foreclosure prevention, budget counseling, homebuyer education, building energy star homes, educating homeowners about weatherization and energy efficient practices, and assisting clients with other resources. Our members recruited 850 volunteers and expanded the capacity of 32 community-based organizations.
