Casa Verde Builders(CVB), at American YouthWorks in Austin, TX, is currently recruiting young people (18-28) from across the country and various walks of life to work together in a team-oriented service environment. The next cohorts will begin 7/11/2023 and 9/5/2023. There are 1700 and 900 hour terms available.

As part of Casa Verde Builders (CVB), Corpsmembers will receive construction training in National Center for Construction Education and Research core curriculum, OSHA 10, & CPR/First Aid. Crews will work on new construction, tiny homes for chronically homeless individuals, and weatherization & home repair projects for low-income/elderly residents. Members will be using hand/power tools: hammers, saws, drills, shovels & spray rigs, and may carry heavy material.

No experience or skills required, only a positive attitude & a willingness to work hard.

Service Activities

As part of Casa Verde Builders (CVB), corpsmembers will receive construction training in National Center for Construction Education and Research core curriculum, OSHA 10, & CPR/First Aid. Crews will work on new construction, weatherization & home repair projects for low-income/elderly residents, and tiny home construction for chronically homeless individuals at Mobile Loaves & Fishes. Members will assist as crew leaders of our YouthBuild crews, helping to organize & lead projects. CVB members will perform strenuous physical tasks outdoors in all types of weather. Members will be using hand/power tools: hammers, saws, drills, shovels & spray rigs, and may carry heavy material. They may be asked to climb ladders & scaffolding, work on roofs or in cramped spaces.

Casa Verde Builders (CVB), at American YouthWorks in Austin, TX, is a national leader in combining green building with affordable housing and the educational needs of Austin youth. Over the past 20 years AmeriCorps members have worked together to build over 100 green-built homes for low-income, first time home buyers.

Position Outcomes

Casa Verde Builders learn construction and green building techniques while earning NCCER and OSHA certification. Students put their marketable skills to good use through community service projects, such as repairing houses for low-income families or building micro-homes for chronically homeless individuals.

We offer case management services for all participants, which includes assistance with support services, emergency assistance, and counseling. We have a Transition Team to assist members with post-program planning, employment/training opportunities, and post-secondary education.
