Resident teachers will serve in 14 month residency working a co-teacher along side a host teacher while also earning a Masters of Science in Education from Urban Teachers' higher education partner--Johns Hopkins University School of Education. They will receive over 1400 hours in real classroom experience learning their craft while also having an enormous impact in the classroom and working with small groups of students.
Health coverage, Stipend
Residents will get room and board for the summer. We also pay for all books and materials for the graduate degree. They get health care through the Johns Hopkins University student health care plan. They get a $20,000 stipend. They also pay $40,000 tuition. All residents are eligible for federal financial aid to cover these tuition costs. Individuals coming to Urban Teachers with a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can use it towards these costs. Urban Teachers is also now an AmeriCorps Education Affiliate which means you can also earn up to two Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards while working with Urban Teachers (earning up to two Segal Awards in a lifetime). There are other financial aid options such as the Teach Grant and Johns Hopkins University School of Education institutional grants.
