United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.

  • About Us
United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.

Our work is fueled by the passion of 2.9 million volunteers and 10.3 million donors who give their time, their money and their voice to improve the lives of others. Every day, our volunteers, donors and advocates are making a lasting difference in so many ways. That can mean helping a child learn to read, donating money to make sure people have access to quality medical care, speaking out in support of policies that provide training for in-demand jobs and so much more. We focus on education, financial stability and health, the building blocks for a good life and a strong community.
  • Our Impact
United Ways across the U.S. host national service members to build, enhance and expand and implement programs that empower individuals and families.
All VISTAs that are a part of the Food Security project focus on expanding the scale, reach, and effectiveness of United Way’s programs designed to help community members achieve food security You will build the capacity of a United Way agency and partner organizations to empower BIPOC families living in poverty. Your work at the local United Way agency will help these families so that they are better able to access nutritious food. As a result of your efforts, the United Way will better understand what food services are currently available in the community, and which best practices can be adopted to enhance program impact and leverage resources to better achieve program goals. A VISTA will be involved in volunteer-recruitment and mobilization, resource development, and program development within the local United Way where they will serve. Another key component of a VISTA’s service will be leveraging inherent community assets, strengths, volunteers, resources and expertise to ensure the project will continue to function and thrive long after the VISTA grant ends.
