AmeriCorps Afterschool Program - 15 hours per week

UECC is an opportunity for undergraduates to build career experience, leadership skills and make a difference in the lives of youth in the Eastside of Riverside. UECC is offering part time positions to undergraduates who are interested in doing a paid year of service by tutoring and community service events. Members will tutor in English Language Arts and/or math students in grades K-12. Assigned sites are in after school programs in community centers. All sites are located near the UC Riverside campus. Community service immerse members in the city's local culture. Some examples include street clean ups, the Festival of Lights, and the Tamale Festival.

Service Activities

Members will be assigned 10 students to tutor all year long. Members are expected to serve 15 hours per week. 10 of the 15 hours are dedicated to one-on-one or small group (1 : 3 ratio) tutoring with assigned students. The remaining 5 of 15 hours are dedicated to member development, logging tutor data, completing time sheets, and contributing to the Eastside community through community service events.

Eastside students performing at an impressively rate below grade level in ELA and/or math in comparison to other schools in the same district and state.

Position Outcomes

Students improve from below grade level to at or above grade level in ELA and/or Math.
