Searching for an opportunity to gain conservation experience and explore the outdoors with a focus in gulf and coastal restoration? The Texas and Louisiana Conservation Corps (TXCC and LaCC) are looking to fill GulfCorps Crew Leader and Member openings for the 2023-2024 term year!

The GulfCorps program is based out of either Houston, TX and Baton Rouge, LA and aims to empower young people through conservation, education, service, and job training. Participants engage in hands-on projects on public lands, coastal regions, and occasionally in disaster areas.

The Texas and Louisiana Conservation Corps of American YouthWorks (TXCC and LaCC) are a part of the GulfCorps Initiative – For the upcoming season we are looking for dedicated young adults to work with us! TXCC and LaCC provide our members with hands-on opportunities, extensive training in conservation and coastal restoration, and the freedom to develop personally and professionally.

In this program the primary focus is gulf and coastal restoration with the potential to conduct prescribed burns. Crews will receive training and education on how prescribed burns impact the environment with Wildland Fire Trainings. There are also structured professional development for future career expansion and exploration after the gulf corps program!

Benefits

Monthly Living Allowance (Stipend)
$2,400/month for Crew Members
$2,720/month for Crew Leaders
$1,459.26-$6,895 | Segal AmeriCorps Education Award: money for qualified student loans, higher education and training programs. Learn more about AmeriCorps and this award.
-Health insurance at no cost to participants
-CPR & Wilderness Advanced First Aid Certification
-Technical & fundamental skills training
-FEMA certifications
-GulfCorps training
-S212 training
-Wildland Firefighter training (depending on projects)

REQUIRED qualifications:

-High school diploma or GED
-Ability to hike 3 – 12 miles potentially over rugged terrain
-Ability to carry 45 – 50 lbs over long distances
-Ability to lift up to 35 lbs repeatedly
-Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
-Ability to work in a team and individually

PREFERRED qualifications:

-Clean 3 year driving record
-Commitment to completing the full term
-Strong desire to serve the community and environment
-Interest in conservation, forestry management, habitat restoration, etc.
