TerraCorps is an AmeriCorps affiliated environmental nonprofit growing a more equitable ecosystem of people and organizations to protect and steward land for broader good. Working at the intersection of land conservation, sustainable agriculture and food justice, we seek to bridge the gap between the urban, rural and suburban land movements historically segregated by socio-economic divides. Through our generative service, training and partnership model, we cultivate future conservation leaders and offer immediate capacity support to the local organizations they serve.

At TerraCorps we’re working to help communities conserve and secure land for the health and wellbeing of people and nature. Using the AmeriCorps national service model, TerraCorps prepares and mobilizes emerging leaders to help strengthen the community based non-profits working to meet these goals.

  • About Us
TerraCorps began in 2008 as a local pilot program of Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust (Mount Grace) with four Commonwealth Corps members serving in North Central Massachusetts. Since those early days, Mount Grace successfully scaled the program to support 20 service site partners across Massachusetts with 36 AmeriCorps members annually in 2016. The dramatic growth of this program has been fueled by the continuing need for increased organizational capacity in our sector, the trend of pursuing our work using a broader, more inclusive community-based approach, and the necessity of developing the next generation of skilled practitioners who will build on the legacies of our work.

This year, TerraCorps will selects 80 AmeriCorps members to serve as Regional Collaboration Coordinators, Land Stewardship Coordinators, Community Engagement Coordinators, Urban Agriculture Coordinators, and Youth Education Coordinators. Members carry out capacity building projects; educate or train individuals; recruit, train, manage, and support community volunteers engaged in land-based activities; and identify new individuals and groups to participate in education, recreation, or service opportunities centered around land access and conservation.

TerraCorps partners with nonprofit land-based organizations across Massachusetts. Visit terracorps.org the full list and contact info of current service sites.
  • Our Impact
TerraCorps aims to increase the long-term capacity of our partner organizations and the needs of the communities they serve. By increasing land access and land conservation capacity, we aim to:

    - improve public understanding of the benefits protected and public land provides,
    - engage more community volunteers in land-based service activities,
    - provide more training, mentorship, and support for leaders of land-based organizations,
    - improve the ability of these groups to provide access, protection and connection to these lands.

Collectively, these activities will increase the amount of protected land and well-managed natural resources in the areas served, resulting in a greater quality of life for current and future residents, a life-enhancing service experience for members, and a more engaged and service-oriented citizenry.
