    The Safe Seniors AmeriCorps Program focuses on enhancing personal preparedness for homebound seniors and people with disabilities, in order to allow them to remain living safely and independently. Members will conduct outreach, provide education, and assist clients in developing personal disaster plans and supplies.Members will: Conduct home visits with enrolled clients to complete personal preparedness activities such as (1) developing a personalized disaster plan, using approved curriculum, that account for the specific needs, challenges, and situations or client (2) creating senior-friendly "go-kits" for use in evacuation and (3) preparing and storing emergency supplies necessary for sheltering in place. Foster independence in clients by helping them build a sense of personal responsibility for preparedness and safety. Create follow-up plans to complete and maintain emergency plans, with ongoing support as needed. As needed, refer clients to other services, such as the city disaster registry or the ADRC.
    Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required.


    Member Duties : Provide outreach, education, and preparedness services (described above) to current Older Alaskans Program (OAP) clients.Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for the Safe Seniors Program, with an emphasis on recruiting and training volunteers from the faith community to build personal and community preparedness within their congregations. Work with The Salvation Army's Admin and Volunteer Coordinator to onboard volunteers through The Salvation Army's existing volunteer management systems.Utilize existing community partnerships, and develop additional community networks through community health fairs, faith community partnerships, and other avenues, to increase program outreach and educational activities. Document and report high-quality outcome and output data using the standardized tools provided. Maintain client records and confidentiality. Work collaboratively with AmeriCorps members, OAP staff and Salvation Army staff to provide excellent service and reach service goals.
