Spend every day surrounded by nature in one of Austin’s most popular city parks! Located in the heart of Zilker Park, Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps (ASC) works to engage and empower youth through education and outdoor experiences. ASC provides opportunities for youth ages 7-15 in Central Texas through our week-long residential summer camps at Zilker Park and Lake Travis. We serve youth from low-income families and are able to offer ALL of our programs completely free of charge! We offer eight sessions throughout the summer and welcome 60- 100 campers per session. Camp sessions teach life skills, self-confidence, trust and teamwork while providing outdoor recreation through activities such as arts and crafts, sports, canoeing, hiking, swimming and other team activities.
Member Duties : Summer VISTA at Austin Sunshine Camps can serve one of two roles - Counselors - Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Counselor is responsible for group and behavior management as well as guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. Activity Specialists - Activity Specialists are responsible for the development and delivery of activities in a specialized program area such as arts and crafts, science or sports. Additionally, Activity Specialists are also responsible for assisting in the supervision of a cabin group when not facilitating specialized activities.
