AmeriCorps Members will serve on the frontlines for education and outreach by assessing needs and collecting data from rural communities and assisting in the design, development and implementation of regular education, outreach, and promotional activities in line with the focus areas of Healthy Eating/Active Living, Behavioral Health, and Healthy Housing. Members may also work directly with priority populations, including people struggling to meet their basic needs and people disproportionately affected by health concerns by providing additional administrative support with member service and improve the use of shared resources and information, Organizations will be more effective and efficient in providing basic need services to our communities across Western Colorado. This position serves weekdays Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends.

We look for candidates that are passionate, intelligent, creative, self-motivated team players, and who feel strongly about the importance of community and individual health. We look for applicants with a background (preferred) or interest in public health, human services, hunger relief, housing, nutrition, and local food systems. Members understand and are sensitive to the diversity among cultural, racial, economic, and other community demographics.

Service Activities

• Organize and arrange large collaborative meetings - coordination and communication with the county health coalition, serve as a liaison for coalition member organizations.
• Attend relevant community trainings for facilitation and strategic development.
• Outreach to potential health coalition members (organizations) and community regarding priority issues.
• Improving the collection of coalition members contact information.
• Tracking metrics, scheduling, and reserving meeting locations.
• Assisting with prevention and behavioral health activities in the county.
• Community outreach/engagement, organize events, develop promotional strategies and materials for print and social media.
• Marketing: assisting with the updating, distributing, and marketing of the educational and resource guides.
• Capacity building - Members innovate organizational systems, programs, and methods that allow rural organizations to more effectively understand and address community need. 10% of time spent on fundraising, including grant writing.

Community Need Addressed

The Mountain Roots Healthy Futures Program builds community food security by creating synergies among education initiatives, nutrition and food access programs, public health and human services, and agricultural/conservation programs in the central Rocky Mountains and southwestern Colorado.

Position Outcomes

The Environment or Health Coalition Coordinator AmeriCorps Member will be placed within Western Colorado agencies. Member will play a key role in coordination and/or serving as a liaison to support organizations in a regional coalition. The position will be responsible for supporting and coordinating leadership meetings of the, meetings, new and sustainable collaborations with local entities (nonprofit, government, private), Community Outreach events in partnership with existing events. These collaborations anticipate a reduction of insecurity related to food, childcare, housing, basic needs along with a reduction in poverty and increased positive behavioral health.
