Description

Come serve with us, building and repairing homes and completing related recordkeeping.
Our member serves as part of the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky--Homes for All AmeriCorps. Our member will serve 1200 hours between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023. Our member will work alongside an experienced contractor and housing administrator, allowing you the opportunity to learn tangible skills through hands-on experience.

The AmeriCorps member will serve in a construction capacity at Paducah Alliance of Neighbors. The AmeriCorps member will coordinate volunteers to provide home repair services and will work with volunteers and staff in preparing newly-constructed homes for new homebuyers. The member will also complete activities related to the continuation of programs and services for clients, including the development of work plans, intake and assessment, personnel activity records, creating and maintaining client files, writing and submitting client and data reports, and completing record keeping related to client funding sources.

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

 Thorough and organized with strong orientation to detail.

 Ability to work as a member of a team, meet deadlines, and plan work.

 Strong aptitude and some hands-on experience in construction is preferred. Willingness to learn and practice construction skills required.

 Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate with community-based volunteers, youth volunteers, halfway house inmate community service workers, and low- and moderate-income homeowner clients; and to speak to groups to recruit and lead volunteers. Should be comfortable with telephone, mail, e-mail, facebook, website, and public speaking as modes of communication.

 Ability to effectively motivate and train volunteers to participate in construction activities.

 Ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word and Excel.

 Ability to create and edit plans in Revvit, Sketchup, or similar program is a bonus.

 Commitment to AmeriCorps and its policies and philosophies and to the non-profit's work toward eliminating substandard housing.
