Project development VISTA members work with staff members and volunteers to develop and implement new programs, create or improve policies and procedures, and develop strategies to build leadership and leverage resources that increase the number of families served through the Habitat mission. During your service, you may develop plans to engage veterans at the community level through a Veterans Build program. You might design a home preservation program within the service area or lay the foundation for a neighborhood revitalization program.
•Develop sustainable systems or programs that will address the needs of the local Habitat.
•Develop methods to increase neighborhood resident participation, including presentations, materials and systems for recruitment of partners, volunteers, and leadership.
•Develop systems to accurately track and record project related data, focused on ensuring sustainability ability to communicate results with stakeholders.
•Formulate results and present findings to key stakeholders.
•Develop documentation processes, materials, and procedures for coalition activities.
Community Need Addressed
Habitat for Humanity's vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Since 1976 Habitat has helped 22 million build or improve the place they call home.
In 2018, Habitat helped more than 8.7 million people, and an additional 2.2 million gained the potential to improve their living conditions through training and advocacy. In addition, more than 1.4 million volunteers were mobilized to build, advocate and raise awareness about the global need for shelter.

Many benefits vary by service location. However all Habitat AmeriCorps members will have the opportunity to travel to the Habitat AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon, an annual blitz build event. Habitat AmeriCorps members also receive a variety of position specific trainings including CPR/First Aid, Lockton Safety Courses, and many more.

Skills you will gain
Following a year of service, members will develop a number of skills in leadership, such as public speaking, time management, project planning and management, increased knowledge of service, engagement and sense of responsibility and knowledge of the issues of affordable housing.
Alumni also reported that the skills gained would help them in the future through performance improvement at a future job, help them find a job and improvement in chances for a promotion. In addition, over one-third of Habitat AmeriCorps alumni continue to work for a local Habitat at the conclusion of their year of service.
