Description

Position Description: The JSC Fellow will spend about half of their time at both Seeds and UCAN in this split position. They will they will oversee volunteers, assist with marketing and programming, as well as aid in day-to-day garden needs. This position requires 32 hours a week, including some evening and weekend commitments.

How Position Furthers Organization’s Mission: UCAN (Urban Community AgriNomics) and Seeds are environmental and food justice organizations in Durham, NC. SEEDS develops the capacity of young people to respect life, the earth, and each other through growing, cooking, and sharing food. UCAN engages the community of Northern Durham and provides a place for those within the community to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables and to develop agricultural skills.

Johnson Service Corps is a diverse, ecumenical community of young adults ages 21 to 28 dedicated to service and justice in Durham, NC. The year starts mid-August and goes through June; it is steeped in volunteer service, professional development, vocational discernment, justice training, intentional community living, and spiritual formation. You volunteer 32 hours a week at various nonprofit organizations throughout the Triangle area. In addition, we provide housing, a shared grocery budget, group counseling, spiritual retreats, health insurance, mentorship, a monthly stipend ($500/a month), and a completion bonus ($1000 at the end of the program year).
