Outreach Coordinator

This position will increase the quantity of workshops, classes and camps. It will build partnerships with design professionals and ally organizations. It will develop and implement a fundraising plan.

Service Activities

- Coordinate design professionals, counselors, and volunteers to work with youth during workshops and camps.
- Seek and coordinate funding to support VISTA specific programming.
- Build and/or maintain relationships with partners and ally organizations.
- Document Prism programming and create content that communicates the organization
- Develop schedule and assist in facilitating educational activities.
- Attend one conference to support research within the field, strengthen relationships with ally organizations, and for their own professional development and networking.

Community Need Addressed

Prism Design Lab is a design education non-profit organization that works with youth in Durham-Chapel Hill, NC to imagine the beauty they want to see in the world, and to give them a platform from which to project their vision. Prism equips youth from historically marginalized communities with the tools they need to shape their built environment by teaching them design skills and giving them opportunities to practice and cultivate these skills.

Position Outcomes

The Prism VISTA project will help break the cycle of poverty through educating youth of historically marginalized communities in the areas of architecture and design. Specifically, the VISTA member will build capacity by strengthening relationships with ally organizations and increase the quantity of programming by developing and scheduling an additional 4 annual workshops.
