Trash for Peace - Sustainability Education Coordinator

This position is a partnership between Confluence Environmental Center, AmeriCorps Program and Trash for Peace. This position will build on the successes of previous AmeriCorps Members, with the goal of educating youth and community members about sustainability through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. This position will help to implement, improve, and expand Trash for Peace’s Sustainability Education Program; a dynamic, weekly program that is hosted on affordable housing communities throughout Multnomah County. It requires a love of serving with youth and families in a community setting, as well as the ability to recruit and manage volunteers. All the programming takes place within multicultural, low-income, diverse housing communities. The person in this position will strive to integrate sustainability concepts in practical, relational, and hands-on ways in order to support the development of more resilient communities.

Service Activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (to include, but not limited to):
● • Serve directly with multi-family youth and residents to lead and engage them in Sustainability Education programming, which includes hands-on waste reduction, nutrition, and other sustainability-themed concepts and activities. 
• Co-design community night workshops and events that relate to sustainability for adults and families
• Co-develop outreach strategies, curriculum, materials, and training content for the communities Trash for Peace serves.    
• Develop and implement an outreach strategy for recruiting volunteers.
• Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for Sustainability Education programming.
• Develop relationships with program partners such as property managers, residents, and community groups.
• Go door-to-door to perform outreach to residents and disseminate information.     
• Collect and enter data related to outreach and education projects in Word, Excel and hard copy forms.
• Participate in Confluence led leadership development activities which include: Leadership Development Program, Change Agent Project, team meetings, National Service events and other self-directed development opportunities.
• Complete and submit all necessary paperwork and reports in a timely manner; abide by program policies; attend and complete all training and service requirements.
