The mission of CitySquare is to fight the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy, and friendship.

  • About Us
CitySquare fights poverty in Dallas, Houston and other communities through over 20 direct service programs including housing programs, case management, food pantry, transitional services for youth exiting the foster care system, workforce training, healthcare services and legal services. One of those programs is CitySquare's AmeriCorps program.

CitySquare operates one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in Texas, leveraging 350 AmeriCorps members every year to serve in the focus areas of education, food security, social services and disaster recovery. Members are placed at host site organizations according to their interest area and experience.
  • Our Impact
CitySquare AmeriCorps places members with partnering nonprofits working to:

    1) Increase academic engagement for economically-disadvantaged youth
    2) Alleviate food insecurity through food pantries or summer meals programs
    3) Improve economic opportunity for adults through case management and workforce development, or
    4) Provide disaster recovery services to communities impacted by natural disasters

With the help of AmeriCorps members, organizations will better meet the needs of their community while also providing meaningful opportunities for members to launch into a lifetime of service.

CitySquare Food

This summer, thousands of children in Texas will go hungry because they lose access to free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch at school. As a sponsor of the Summer Food Service Program, CitySquare’s Food program is able to deliver free nutritious meals to children living in low-income communities during the summer. CitySquare’s Food on the Move team delivers the summer meal program both to community partner sites and through a unique mobile program. Meals are served between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday through Friday to any child ages 1-18. CitySquare contracts with vendors to prepare individual healthy meals, and CitySquare AmeriCorps members will deliver and distribute meals as well as supervise the meal service and clean up after the meal service ends. In addition, the CitySquare AmeriCorps members will engage the children in activities while they are at each site. In summer 2018, the program surveyed parents of children who received meals from Food on the Move. 100% of parents surveyed stated that they were able to spend less money on food over the summer because of the meals their children received from CitySquare Food Programs. 91% stated that the meals were healthier or more well-rounded than what their child might have eaten without the program, and 98% stated that they would like their child to participate the following summer.
