Description

Young people are not deficient. They are not things for us to fix. They are our greatest resource, just waiting to be tapped. Unlike other organizations, we cultivate a diverse group of middle and high school students from different neighborhoods, backgrounds, and experiences to collectively engage in change-making practices and learn about social issues of their interest. Based on youth input, we curate an evolving curriculum that guides young people to engage in a social issue of their choice through partnerships with community organizations, workshops, and team building.

As a Youth Empowerment Fellow, you will be trained to cultivate spaces for a diverse community of young people in Stockton, California. You will do this by creating thoughtful, culturally responsive workshops and experiences to enhance learning. We also provide a sizeable education award of $10,000* pre-tax after completing 1700 hours of service along with a modest bi-weekly living allowance during your term, health & dental, and childcare assistance if applicable. What’s in it for you? Gain expertise supporting a contemporary youth program making waves across California, graduating nearly 1,900 young changemakers to date!

U.S. Citizens or legal permanent residents between 17-26 years old are eligible. Must have a GED or high school diploma to be eligible to apply.

* Cumulative total of the Eli Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps and Cal for All award through CalVolunteers.
