Youth Development Specialist

BAYAC AmeriCorps Members will serve in positions such as After-School Educators, Academic Coaches & Tutors, Program Coordinators, Student Advocates, Assistant Teachers, and Health Educators in school based and community based organizations around the San Francisco Bay Area. Members will participate in Friday team day meetings that include personal and professional development trainings & peer support throughout the duration of their service. Members will also engage in National Community Service days such as Make A Difference Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day, and Cesar Chavez Service Day.

Service Activities

Depending on the service site you interview and are placed with, our members facilitate small group intervention activities, lead classroom learning activities, develop and implement school based curriculum, deliver student workshops and training, provide one-on-one and group tutoring and academic support, and develop community partnerships and resources for students and their families.

Community Need Addressed

Underperforming schools in urban communities, creating safe spaces for youth to develop and grow.

Position Outcomes

Increased academic skills, connection to caring adult role models, development of caring school and community climates that value youth.
