NEW MOMS: Event Specialist
JOB SUMMARY:
The Event Specialist is responsible for assisting in the planning, execution and evaluation of fundraising and social events supporting New Moms. The Event Specialist is a valued member of the Development team which works in a highly collaborative style. The Event Specialist is an ambassador of New Moms mission working closely with the Development team and event volunteers. The Event Specialist has direct contact with young moms when taking shifts at the Chicago front desk. The Event Specialist will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance.
JOB DUTIES:
Coordinate the Volunteer Program (60% of the position)
• Plan and execute small events celebrating and honoring New Moms 40th Anniversary year
• Recruit and effectively steward volunteers to contribute to small anniversary events
• Assist the Senior Manager of Donor Relations & Events in planning and executing the Anniversary Gala
• Work with event committees including recruitment, stewardship and effectively utilizing their contributions
• Lead committees for the Anniversary Gala (auction, decorating)
• Create marketing materials and print collateral specific to event, in cooperation with Development Staff
• Develop and lead orientation sessions for all new event volunteers ensuring that sessions reflect the most current services of New Moms and that volunteers understand the mission
• Develop and execute a plan to recognize event volunteers
• Manage volunteer information and hours in Salesforce
• Manage auction information in Givesmart
• Assist Engagement Specialist with New Moms Christmas initiative for families
• Develop creative ways to engage donors with stories from New Moms' participants
• Assist Development team with tasks that come up throughout the year
Direct Social Service (35% of the position)
• Provide Emergency Services one to two afternoons per month, serving pregnant and parenting adolescents who have emergency needs for diapers, formula, and information on resources
• Serve as Ambassador at the Welcome Desk working a few shifts per week, necessitating an understanding of all programs to facilitate seamless operations
Administration and Other (5%)
• Actively participate in semi-monthly Development team meeting in the Chicago office
• Actively participate in other meetings as requested
• Participate at each special event with duties as assigned
• Protect the organizations value by keeping information confidential
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations
• Upholds the New Moms’ Family-Centered Coaching approach which is grounded in racial equity
• Perform other duties as assigned

Each fellow is provided with opportunity to be matched with a professional mentor, a spiritual companion, and counseling resources. There are three service days and trainings for all fellows each service year as well as mentoring if wanted.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Working on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field
• Prior event planning experience preferred
• Adept at using Microsoft Office suite
• Experience with using a CRM database (Salesforce preferred)
• Ability to occasionally work afternoons, evenings & weekends
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, and work as a member of a team
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a proven track-record as a presenter
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of program
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Individual must be able to stand and sit up to nine (9) hours at a time; be able to walk up and down stairs and be able to lift/move items up to 30-40 pounds. The noise level and temperature in the environment may vary.
