I would like to spend the next year serving because I am interested in becoming a part of something that is much greater than myself and my comfort zone. It is my goal to eventually run a non profit, urban youth development organization upon completing my collegiate education. It is my desire to serve for a year so I am able to start putting those desires into action and giving what I can to communities in need. I hope that through a service year I am not only able to change make a difference in the lives of youth in need, but that they are also able to make a difference in my life as well.
Alexis is joining Americorps through Reading Partners NYC this service year as a site coordinator. She’s currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Sociology at Mercy College. Prior to starting her service year, she created and implemented Counselor-In-Training programming for The Summer Camp for Girls, in Washington, Maine. While originally from Henderson, Nevada, Alexis is excited to be joining Reading Partners here in New York City and is eager to be taking on a year of service with Americorps through Reading Partners NYC. In addition to serving with Reading Partners NYC, Alexis is also a member of the Service Year 100 and Americorps National Leadership Council.
