Louisiana Advocacy Corps AmeriCorps VISTA members work to eradicate poverty through the implementation of proven community-driven programs that improve outcomes in child well-being. Advocacy Corps members focus their service on four core areas: child well-being, children in the foster care system, education and prevention, and strengthening communities. The Advocacy Corps utilizes a statewide network of programs, partners, and stakeholders to create advocacy for vulnerable families, and create avenues to provide both children and families with resources, skills, and access to services. Each individual position will differ by site.

Service Activities

Advocacy Corps member service will focus on four capacity building needs: awareness and outreach; fund development; advocacy, training and prevention; and program development. Service activities include:

Developing social and traditional media strategies for recruitment; developing print materials for distribution in the community; grant writing; fundraising event planning; donor and community relationship development; expanding access to training programs; volunteer recruitment, retention and engagement; developing new programming; improving and evaluating existing processes; data tracking and management.

Community Need Addressed

The Louisiana Advocacy Corps build community capacity for Louisiana's most vulnerable citizens -our children. Through our network of statewide partners, Louisiana Advocacy Corps members create pathways for children who have been abused or neglected to thrive, equipping them with the resilience necessary to overcome poverty.

Position Outcomes

Louisiana Advocacy Corps members work to increase community engagement in child abuse and neglect prevention, and increase access to services for vulnerable children and families through volunteer recruitment and development.
