Individual Placement AmeriCorps Members serve with WisCorps partner organizations focused on the areas of natural resource conservation and environmental education. Members promote community service and environmental awareness through direct training and service in the outdoors while participating in community engagement projects. Service Members serve at a single placement site, receive a biweekly stipend and AmeriCorps benefits that correlate to their term of service. Upon successful completion of their service hours, Individual Placements receive a Segal Education Award correlating to the number of service hours completed.
Position Service Site: La Crosse Area Habitat for Humanity
Positions Available: 2
Service Time: April 25, 2022 – August 26, 2022 (40 hrs/wk) (675 Hour Service Term)
Benefits: Living stipend total for whole term = $6,040.08 ($335.56/week). Education Award = $2,474.27 upon successful completion of service.

ABOUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: We believe that decent, affordable housing should be a matter of conscience and action; we realize that there are people in our community who are living in inadequate conditions and that joining together we can provide a hand up – not a hand out.
For many people it is an eye-opening experience to see what homes and conditions are like for many of the working poor. We believe that many stereotypes will be dispelled as people of different economic, ethnic, or religious backgrounds work together. We all share a common humanity, with similar frailties, strengths and aspirations.
OVERVIEW: The Construction and Recycling Assistant works directly with the Construction Manager and volunteers to build energy efficient homes for members of our community! They will also keep metal resources out of the landfill through Habitat for Humanity’s Metal Recycling Program. Metal Recycling Program duties include sorting, tearing down, and removing metals from various tools, appliances, and electronics to be recycled. This is an opportunity to get hands-on learning experience daily in the construction trade, including the opportunity to apply framing, interior finishing, and exterior finishing. The Construction and Recycling Assistant will learn energy efficient residential construction techniques used to construct homes built to the Focus on Energy standard.
The Construction and Recycling Assistant will be trained in:
• Safe and proper use of hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power equipment
• Blueprint reading
• Building science principles
• OSHA practices
• Foundation building
• Painting
• Installing
o Roofing
o Tiling
o Doors/windows
o Siding
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate with construction managers and specialists on ongoing projects to build energy efficient residential homes in your community
• Assists in coordination of material purchases, deliveries, tracking, and forecasting.
• Assist in completing production reports and project tracking sheets.
• Sorting, tearing down, and removing metals for recycling
• Working with the Construction Manager to update the construction schedule.
• Maintaining a safe work environment for self and fellow volunteers
• Cleaning and organizing the worksite
