Up2Us Sports is a national nonprofit dedicated to using the power of sports and highly trained coaches to reduce violence, promote health and inspire academic success for our nation’s most vulnerable youth. Up2Us Sports’ research, training and on-the-ground initiatives empower sports programs across the country to become a united force for meaningful change. POSITION DESCRIPTION
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a national service program to fight poverty in America. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance and health benefits during their service, and have the option to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or post-service stipend after completing their service. The Up2Us Sports VISTA Leader is position for a person who has served a previous AmeriCorps term and will be based in the New York City National office. He/she will work directly with the project supervisor to expand and build the capacity of 25 VISTA members (17 in NY and 8 national placements).
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Build upon existing systems to ensure smooth recruitment, retention, and adherence to performance measures throughout the year
• Act as the Up2Us Sports main point of contact and support for the VISTA members
• Provide in-service training opportunities and professional development workshops for VISTA members
• Conduct site visits for purposes of providing support to VISTAs
• Facilitate effective communication and progress reporting among VISTAs, Up2UsSports and host sites
• Coach VISTA members on AmeriCorps processes such as loan forbearance and deferment, and accessing/using the Education Award

This is an AmeriCorps position. AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders receive a monthly stipend of approximately $1350/month depending on living costs in your city. Members qualify for federal assistance and loan deferment. Other benefits include a monthly metro card and a small rent subsidy. Upon successful completion of an AmeriCorps VISTA term, service members earn an Education Award ($5,815) that can be put towards student loans or future educational plans. There is opportunity for professional development and membership in a national network of AmeriCorps service members. VISTA also subsidizes relocation upon the start of your service. This position will start on August 4, 2017.

Qualifications:
• Previous full year of AmeriCorps service
• Bachelor’s degree
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Creativity and problem solving skills for creating effective and sustainable systems with limited resources
• Strong computer skills and able to learn new technologies quickly
• Interest in sports-based youth development
• Able to work independently at times and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
