The NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers (NYULFHC) Department of Community-Based Programs has a thirty-five-year history of providing educational and supportive services to community residents and their families. Our work is grounded in the philosophy that is the foundation of our holistic orientation to community health - that health depends upon such factors as an individual's psychosocial, familial, economic, housing, educational, and employment status.     At Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, providing patients with high-quality health care is only the beginning. Family Health Centers at NYU Langone' Department of Community Based Programs has a thirty-five history of providing services that address the broader social, educational and emotional needs of the community.

    Our work is grounded in the philosophy that is the foundation of Lutheran’s holistic orientation to community health – recognizing that health depends upon an individual's economic, educational and employment status.

    We strive to meet the overall needs of the community in the following ways:
    Designing programs that are grounded in community social work practices and are responsive to evolving family and community issues in the context of a diverse, multicultural society. These include:
    Community Development
    Neighborhood revitalization; education; workforce development; community service and volunteer opportunities
    Early Childhood Services
    Center based, affordable early childhood daycare; family literacy
    Family Strengthening Services
    Supportive counseling; English classes and GED preparation; nutrition education
    Older Adult Services
    Wellness activities and health education; housing and supportive services; access to medical and rehabilitative care; social adult day programs; service coordination; caregiver resources and long-term care
    Youth and Adolescent Services
    After-school programs; youth education (GED/BE); peer education; specialized adolescent health services; service learning programs; college readiness
    Developing strong collaborative relationships with community partners to create integrated service delivery systems
    Advocating for services and systems that are fair, responsive and accountable to the families served
    Mobilizing formal and informal resources to support family development
