  • Education & Youth

The mission of Springfield College is to educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others. Members of Springfield College AmeriCorps programs live and share this mission, engaging in service that meets the critical educational needs of Springfield youth.

  • About Us
Through the AmeriCorps program, members serve in Springfield schools, grades K through 12, where they facilitate interventions targeting risk factors for dropping out of school, low attendance, behavioral/disciplinary issues, and course failure in English and math.

AmeriCorps members can serve as half-time members, completing 900 hours as a student support specialist or as quarter-time members, completing 450 hours as a academic support specialist. Members are selected and placed based on previous experience, academic program, and applicable skills. The program also provides extensive training and support ensuring that members have a meaningful service experience that positively impacts the academic success of children in Springfield.

School Turnaround Initiative

Within the School Turnaround Initiative, AmeriCorps members like you can become student support specialists, working to provide school counseling, academic coaching and support, and social-emotional reinforcement to Springfield students in chronically low-performing elementary, middle, and high schools. As a student support specialist, you'll support each school’s turnaround plan by serving as a caring adult advocate, mentor, coach, and counselor for students struggling with attendance, academics, and social-emotional issues.
